Parenting and Children's Friendship

The UCLA Parenting and Children's Friendship Program is an outpatient clinic that offers families evidence-based parent training and social skills group programs.

Parent training group programs address common problems of family living and management of children with behavioral difficulties. Each weekly group session consists of presentation and practice of behavioral techniques via handouts, role-plays, discussion and home assignments. Groups are offered for parents of 2-12 year olds and parents with young adolescents (12.5-15.5 years old). Individual sessions may also be available as needed.

Social Skills/Friendship Training group programs are offered for children or teens that have difficulty making and/or keeping friends. Being accepted by age mates and having a best friend are important for children and teens and important for adjustment in adolescence and adulthood. During each session children/teens learn a new skill, practice with group members, receive coaching on their skills and are given a home assignment in which they try out their newly learned skill with help from their parents.

Children's Friendship Program: Friendship Training for elementary age children (1st-6th grade)

Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS): Designed for teens (13-17 years old) with developmental delays
