The Accelerated Summer Program is designed for nursing students that attend college outside of the Los Angeles Metropolitan area but have summer residence in Southern California. This high intensity program will give volunteers the opportunity to complete a minimum of 100 hours over a 10 week program across diverse patient populations and departments. The program requires volunteers to complete a minimum of 12 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours.
As a Nursing Volunteer, you will provide: one to one companionship for patients that need more observation, assist nursing staff with patient care (baths, beds, feeding, ambulation), observe procedures, shadow nursing staff, perform audits, participate in unit based projects, answer call lights and phones, assist families and visitors as needed, etc. Please note that this is NOT a one to one nursing clinical preceptorship and you will not be allowed to perform nursing skills such as: IV placement/therapy, Blood Glucose Checks, Medication Administration, etc. The experience is to provide you with an opportunity to gain additional insight to the role of nursing.
If you answered YES to all the following questions, you are eligible to apply.
Please keep in mind that we will ask for proof for the questions above to confirm your eligibility.
