The Office of Emergency Preparedness is tasked with developing and testing responses to internal emergencies within the UCLA Health (Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, and the entire affiliated network). This office is also responsible for developing plans and capabilities to respond to external emergencies and disasters in order to support the patient population of the local and regional community. Business Continuity Planning also plays a key role to look at mission sustainment for long-term or catastrophic emergencies. In this mission, the Office supports several unique functions:
The Office of Emergency Preparedness provides staff support and technical expertise for the Emergency Management Executive Steering Committee and Subcommittees in the development of planning, preparedness, mitigation, and recovery initiatives. The team also plays a key role in responding to emergencies to support the Incident Management Team in actual events.
Utilizing the UC Ready Business Continuity Tool, the Office works with individual departments to establish business continuity plans. These plans help departments identify critical functions, dependencies, and strategies to overcome reduction in available resources, space, and infrastructure. The process also encourages the development of action items to allow the department to become more resilient to emergencies and disasters.
