The International, Health Services and Policy Program, lead by AIDS Institute Associate Director Thomas Coates, PhD, provides a mechanism whereby UCLA HIV/AIDS investigators can link their domestic and international research projects for the mutual benefit of both. UCLA's domestic portfolio has focused on HIV basic, translational, clinical, epidemiological, prevention, and health policy research with populations at increased risk for HIV; UCLA's ever-expanding international portfolio is focused on similar issues in three critical regions: Asia (Cambodia, China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam), sub-Saharan Africa (Malawi, South Africa, and Uganda), and Latin America (Brazil and Peru). The International, Health Services and Policy Program transcends national boundaries, bringing together U.S. scientists and investigators from developing countries to address shared problems in our response to HIV/AIDS, develop common solutions, and build mutual capacity.
