The first-ever study to shed light on the role of sex chromosomal influence on pulmonary hypertension appeared ahead of print on September 21 in the prominent American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Our department’s researchers, led by Soban Umar, MD, PhD, showed that the Y chromosome – found only in males – may be the single most important factor protecting against the development of this catastrophic disease.
