Considerations After Treatment

After undergoing breast cancer treatment, there are many decisions that you will need to make and factors you may want to consider.

Women recovering from breast cancer are encouraged to follow established guidelines for good health, such as maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, minimizing alcohol intake, eating a balanced diet and receiving recommended cancer screening tests. Talk with your team to develop a plan that is best for your needs. Moderate physical activity can help rebuild your strength and energy level and may lower the risk of cancer recurrence. Your team can help you create a safe exercise plan based upon your needs, physical abilities and fitness level.

The following information covers some of these topics that do not have to do with treatment the cancer, but with what happens after that treatment.

Infertility
Some breast cancer treatments may cause temporary or permanent infertility, meaning the inability to become pregnant or have children. If this is a concern for you, please talk with your healthcare team about any fertility-related side effects of your treatment plan and the options for preserving your fertility before treatment begins.
