Ronald Mitsuyasu, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles 

Ronald Mitsuyasu, MD Professor of Medicine in Hematology-Oncology

Director, Clinical AIDS Research and Education (CARE) Center

Background:  Dr. Mitsuyasu is an established clinical investigator with over 25 years of experience in HIV clinical trials research and patient care. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he went on to receive an MD degree from the UCLA School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Rush University in 1981, and a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at UCLA in 1984. He founded one of the first clinics for Kaposi's sarcoma and AIDS malignancies at UCLA in 1983.

Specializations: clinical trial investigations of cytokines, immune-based therapies, biologic response modifiers, vaccines and gene therapies for HIV and treatments for AIDS-related malignancies

Judith Currier, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles 

Judith Currier, MD, M.Sc. Professor of Medicine, UCLA Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine Division Chief of Infectious Diseases
Associate Director, UCLA Clinical AIDS Research and Education (CARE) Center

Background:  Dr. Currier completed medical school at Dartmouth followed by residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Infectious Disease fellowships at Beth Israel and Harvard Medical School. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator for the UCLA AIDS Prevention and Treatment Clinical Trials Unit and Vice Chair of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG).

Specializations:  Infectious Diseases and Clinical Epidemiology, including the treatment and prevention of complications of antiretroviral therapy, gender-related issues in HIV therapy and the evaluation of antiretroviral treatment strategies in resource limited settings

Debika Bhattacharya, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA 

Debika Bhattacharya, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine

Background: Dr. Bhattacharya joined the UCLA faculty in 2006. She graduated from the seven-year accelerated medical program at Boston University, receiving her MD in 1997 and then trained in internal medicine at Baylor University in Houston, Texas and completed an infectious diseases fellowship at Stanford University.

Specializations: Management of HIV and HIV/viral hepatitis co-infection, predictors of clinical outcomes in HIV/HBV co-infected patients in South Africa, and mother-to-child transmission of HBV in HIV/HBV co-infected pregnant women

Margrit Carlson, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA 

Margrit Carlson, MD
Associate Clinical Professor

Background: Dr. Carlson has served as the CARE Clinic's Medical Director since 2003. She completed medical school at George Washington University, and completed residency and an Infectious Disease fellowship at UCLA before being appointed as a clinical professor.

Specializations: HIV primary care, neurologic complications of HIV, novel therapies, and treatment of acute infection

Background: Dr. Chang joined the CARE Center in 2005 as an HIV fellow after completing his Internal Medicine & Pediatrics residency at Tulane University and medical school at the University of Minnesota.

Specializations: HIV primary care, preventative medicine, sexual health, nutrition/exercise and overall well-being

Background: Dr. Chew joined the CARE Center in 2010 as part of her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at UCLA, following internal medicine residency and a junior clinical faculty position in the Division of General Internal Medicine at UCSF

Specializations: HIV and Hepatitis C, including studies to improve the treatment and outcomes of people with Hepatitis C and HIV/Hepatitis C co-infection

Risa Hoffman, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA 

Risa Hoffman, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor

Background: Dr. Hoffman graduated from Stanford University and received her MD from UCLA, and MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her adult Infectious Disease training at UCLA in 2008 and has remained with the Division as junior faculty where she works closely with both the UCLA Program in Global Health and the CARE Center.

Specializations: Optimizing care for HIV-infected women, including as UCLA site PI of the PROMISE study and as a collaborator on the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit (RHRU) in Johannesburg, South Africa

Background: Dr. Khoury is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Jordan after participating in a number of transnational medical workshops in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to completing his Internal Medicine residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Dr. Khoury held clinical and medical positions at The University of New Mexico, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada. Now working at UCLA CARE Center, he aims to focus his work on HIV primary care and research to further empower those living with HIV to be proactive with regards to their overall health

Raphael Landovitz, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA 

Raphael Landovitz, MD, MSc
Assistant Professor of Medicine

Background: Dr. Landovitz joined the CARE Center in 2006 after training at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital. He also served as medical co-director for the Vietnam CDC Harvard Medical School AIDS Partnership in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Specializations: Infectious diseases and HIV, with a specific interest in HIV prevention, particularly the use of chemoprophylaxis as part of HIV prevention - PrEP, PEP, and microbicides, as well as the impact of such prevention interventions on risk behavior

Ardis Moe, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA

Associate Professor of Medicine

Background: Dr. Moe began her Infectious Diseases fellowship at UCLA and continued as an NIH-sponsored HIV Clinical Trials fellow, and then stayed on at UCLA as faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases. She maintains a clinical practice at the CARE Center and also at a Ryan White-funded HIV clinic in Van Nuys: Northeast Valley Health Corporation.

Specializations: HIV primary care, HIV dementia, and complications of HIV and HIV treatments

Alen Voskanian, MD: UCLA CARE Center Faculty, Los Angeles, CA

Background: Dr. Voskanian joined the CARE Center in 2007.  Prior to joining CARE, he was the director of high resolution anoscopy clinic and dysplasia practice at AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Dr. Voskanian completed all of his education in the UC system, starting with UC Berkeley for his undergraduate studies in molecular and cell biology, followed by medical school at UC Irvine and then residency at UCLA.  After his residency, he completed a fellowship in HIV/AIDS at AIDS Healthcare Foundation. 

Specializations: Treatment and identification of anal dysplasia, including high resolution anoscopies; HPV trials including vaccine studies
