Mary Catherine Cambou, MD
Dr. Cambou is an Infectious Diseases physician with broad interests in HIV and HPV co-infection, ranging from epidemiology to clinical trials. Dr. Cambou received a BA in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California (UC) Berkeley. During medical school at UC Los Angeles (UCLA), she received a ten-month, NIH-funded research grant to evaluate HIV and HPV epidemiology in women in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her primary project evaluated anal high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) prevalence, and factors associated with abnormal anal cytology in a large cohort of women living with HIV. This research informed the UNAIDS reference on HPV, HIV and cervical/anal cancer. After medical school, she completed training in Social Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. Dr. Cambou returned to UCLA for her Infectious Diseases fellowship, where she was recognized for her productivity as a researcher, and received the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) award to pursue a PhD at the Fielding School of Public Health.
