The UCLA Student-Run Homeless Clinic provide free healthcare to the growing, underserved homeless population throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The clinics are led by UCLA medical students who work under the supervision of UCLA Family Medicine faculty member, Dr. Mary Marfisee. Medical students and physicians work side-by-side with mobile shower vans to bring unhindered, essential medical care to people experiencing homelessness. On average, the program serves 400 shower guests weekly and as many as 2,000 patients per year. The team provides on-site rapid medical assessments, urgent care, wound care, foot care, mental health screenings, vaccinations, medications, and chronic disease management while guiding them to reliable community clinics referrals for continuity of services.
The students also work collaboratively with several community-based organizations to initiate comprehensive social services vital to helping people who are homeless get their lives back on track.
