PHI and Email
Is it okay to send PHI to non-mednet email addresses such as Bruin.UCLA.edu?Generally the answer is no unless the email is encrypted or sent through another highly secure means. Emails with PHI should be limited to Mednet mail accounts when conducting UCLA Health System business. Emails sent outside the UCLA Health System network are not always protected from interception during transmission and may be read at their destination by individuals other than the intended recipient.
