What is ‘incident-to’ billing? In the context of Medicare Part B fee-for-service billing, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) defines “incident-to” as those services/supplies furnished as an integral, although incidental, part of the physician’s personal professional services in the course of diagnosis or treatment of an injury or illness. Medicare Part B “incident-to” billing is applicable when these services are furnished by a Non-Physician Practitioner (NPP) and billed by the supervising physician. Services and supplies furnished incident-to a physician’s professional services are reimbursed at 100% of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) rate. | |
