Metabolic acidosis is a condition in which there is an excess of acid in the body. This can happen due to multiple reasons: Production of too much acid, inability to get rid of enough acid or insufficient amount of base to counter the acid. Kidneys play a vital role in maintaining a healthy balance between acids and bases in our body. They do this by getting rid of excess acid from our body through urine. When the kidneys do not function properly, there is a buildup of these acids leading to Metabolic Acidosis.
