2019 Funding Opportunity Announcement

The UCLA Critical Care Center proudly announces the second annual Critical Care Center Research Award competition. This FOA is designed to provide start-up funding for early stage investigators seeking to build a career in academic critical care medicine.   

The scope of this FOA is to provide one (1) year of funding for a junior faculty member to foster their research in preparation of grant submission to a national granting agency (i.e., NIH, NSF, DOD).

Research Objective and Goal: The objective of this FOA is to promote creative and collaborative research in critical care.

The goal is to provide funding to enable generation of preliminary data for a competitive grant application.  The ability of the pilot study to lead to a meaningful competitive grant submission will be an important review criterion. The ability to enhance collaborative research within the UCLA Critical Care Center is a second important review criterion.

Types of studies include, but are not limited to:

1. Feasibility studies
   1. Pilot observational studies in emergency and critical care
   2. Pilot interventional studies in emergency and critical care
2. Informatics studies in emergency and critical care
3. Humanism and Ethics studies in emergency and critical care

Award Amount: $25,000

Duration of Award: One (1) year, June 2019-May 2020

Number of awards: One (1) per year

Eligibility Criteria: The applicant must be an active UCLA Faculty member in good standing, within 8 years of completing fellowship training (e.g., Assistant Professor or Clinical Instructor), and have not received independent extramural funding as the PI from the NIH, DOD, NSF or similar federal entity.
