Dr. David Johnson joined the IUO from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill following his Urologic Surgery Residency. Dr. Johnson is currently involved in health services research with a focus on value-based care redesign and alternative payment models in urologic cancer care. The aim is to systematically evaluate processes of care surrounding localized prostate and kidney cancer treatment in order to determine drivers of cost and quality. Ultimately, the goal is to maximize the value of care we deliver throughout the institution and provide a model for other health care organizations to follow that want to redesign their care processes to lower cost and quality. In addition, Dr. Johnson is working on establishing a collaboration with the Cuban Ministry of Health to improve the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer in Cuba.
