Program Overview

The Scientific Training in Addiction Research Techniques (START) Program is a comprehensive research education program dedicated to enhancing the substance misuse research workforce. START specifically prepares investigators to access, analyze and disseminate data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study and the HEALthy Brain and Cognitive Development (HBCD) Study at the University of Vermont. 

Each scholar will be paired with a START mentor and will complete a mandatory mentorship orientation in which they work together to establish goals, expectations, the mentoring format and an action plan.

START scholars will be supported by a mentoring mosaic during the program. This will include the primary START mentor, the START leadership, peer mentors (alumni) and the other trainees. It will also include active inclusion of the nationwide ABCD and HBCD consortium, providing valuable networking and educational opportunities.
