Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Advocacy Track

Faculty Leader: Charles Flippen II, MD
Fellow Leader: Adys Mendizabal, MD, MA

Through the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Advocacy Track, residents will gain an in depth understanding on social determinants of health that impact access to neurological care, participation in clinical trials, as well as health outcomes across different neurological conditions.

Along with a three year educational curriculum, the track will provide residents with the ability to participate in community outreach efforts such as participation in the Venice Family Clinic, as well as healthcare policy and advocacy efforts such as AAN Neurology-on-the-Hill Day.

In addition to improving resident education on these topics, the goal of the track is to provide residents with the language and skills necessary to become leaders in patient advocacy in all healthcare settings and to ensure improved access, outcomes, and representation of all patients with neurological disease independent of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious background, or physical/intellectual abilities.
