About Our Program

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Program at UCLA. The mission of our program is for fellows to become experts caring for a diverse pediatric dermatology population in Los Angeles, within a mentored environment. The program’s mission aligns with UCLA Health’s mission to deliver leading-edge patient care, research and education. Our training is a one-year program where our fellow will gain expertise in evaluating and treating a wide range of skin conditions both in the outpatient setting and the inpatient consultative service. Fellows will also have opportunities to teach, perform research, attend grand rounds and national conferences.

Our ACGME-approved fellowship provides:

Clinical Training

  • Outstanding training in pediatric dermatology at UCLA Health that is ranked #1 in California and #3 in the nation
  • Participate in our monthly multidisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Clinic
  • Opportunity to rotate through a variety of pediatric subspecialty clinics at Mattel Children’s Hospital
  • Procedural training in excisions and lasers including Pulsed Dye, NdYag, QS Nd:YAG/Alexandrite, Fraxel, and Microneedling in our outpatient clinic and OR
  • Experience with excimer laser and managing patients in the phototherapy unit
  • Weekly fellow continuity clinic
  • Exposure to inpatient pediatric dermatology at the Mattel Children’s Hospital and Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, tertiary care hospitals with NICU, PICU, bone marrow transplant patients and general pediatric patients. The fellow will be part of the inpatient dermatology team consisting of a dermatology resident and dedicated hospitalist dermatologist. The fellow’s role will focus on learning inpatient pediatric dermatology and teaching
  • Around 110 inpatient consults per year and 6250 outpatient visits per year

Education

  • The educational curriculum includes didactic lectures from Hurwitz chapters, weekly grand rounds, quarterly pediatric dermatology journal clubs, and review of interesting cases with attendings.
  • Faculty-led didactic lectures by our pediatric dermatology faculty who have all won teaching awards
  • Weekly resident and fellow lecture series
  • A mentored, supportive and nurturing environment to help fellows achieve their career goals for academic or community practice
  • Fellows have opportunities to present at the AAD, Society for Pediatric Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance meetings and Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatologic Society Meeting hosted at UCLA
  • Opportunity for volunteering and community service at Camp Wonder and Venice Family clinic

Research

  • Opportunities to lead and participate in clinical research, with support from UCLA’s Clinical and Translational Research Institute
  • Fellows are expected to be involved in teaching and research, with a goal of at least one publication and presentation during their fellowship. Fellows are only responsible to follow up on results of patients they themselves have seen in clinic.
