FAQ
Is this kit something I can buy elsewhere?
This kit is similar in price and contents to other marketed products, but has been created with the mission of UCLA Health in mind. The kit is meant to be a tool to educate you and your household, rather than just an item you will keep in the closet and never look at until a disaster happens. In order to be fully prepared, you will need to acquire the needed materials, and to develop plans based on what your specific household needs will be. Kits that are available elsewhere at a similar price may not provide the education needed for optimal preparedness planning.
Is this kit only for home?
This kit can be customized to keep in your car, at work, or at home as it is a convenient backpack that is easy to carry and store. To keep in your car or at work, simply add items that you would need if you had to stay away from your home for an extended period of time. The Planning Guide has a list of items that you should add to your kit; simply adjust this list to include items you will need to keep in a car or office.
How many people does this kit support?
This kit is meant to be a customizable starter kit. Most items in this kit will sustain one or two individuals for one day; however, several items will need to be added such as food, water and medications. View the list of suggested items and quantities in the Planning Guide as a reference for how many items you will need to include for your household size and needs. You may also browse additional resources (see below) for standard quantities recommended by disaster preparedness agencies.
