Thoracoscopy is a minimally invasive lung surgery that serves a number of different purposes, such as biopsy, drainage of fluid, or removal of a part of the lung. Instead of one large cut on the chest wall, the surgeon makes several small cuts to introduce a videoscope (video camera) and other instruments needed to perform the procedure. This minimally invasive approach leads to less pain and faster recovery compared to an open lung surgery.
