Description

Major themes of the laboratory are the identification of disease-causing mutations with whole exome sequencing or transcriptional changes in patient-derived stem cells, neural mechanisms of light-associated pain (photophobia), and mouse models of retinal damage from von Hippel Lindau disease and central retinal artery occlusion.

We use targeted genetic lesioning, transcriptomics, electrophysiology, animal behavior, and other cutting edge techniques in ocular imaging, molecular genetics, and cell biology to better understand the problems faced by our patients so that we can develop new strategies and approaches to treatment and prevention.

Current Research Projects

  • Big Data Bioinformatics and Genetics of Hereditary Retinal Disorders
  • Biological Basis and Neural Pathway associated with Light Sensitivity
  • Animal models of retinal disease and disorders
