I pursued my B.S. in Zoology in 2008 and M.S. in Biochemistry in 2010 from The M.S. University of Baroda, India. During my doctoral studies (2013-2019) in Dr. Prakash Pillai’s laboratory, I focused on the effects of natural compounds, quercetin and docosahexaenoic acid, on mitochondrial impairment and neuroinflammation in rat primary glial cells mimicking Rett syndrome and neurodegenerative disease-models. Having a keen interest in vision science, I joined Dr. Radu Lab in Sep-2019. Currently, I study the dynamics of epigenetic regulations and mitochondrial bioenergetics in retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPEs) from Stargardt models using the latest technologies which include Reduced representative bisulphite sequencing, RNA sequencing, Proteomics analysis, Seahorse respirometry and so on. My long-term interest is to identify and manipulate the key epigenetic regulators involved in regulating multiple gene expressions in the RPE, thereby, slowing the secondary manifestations in genetic neurodegenerative blinding diseases.
