UCLA’s Stein Eye Institute consists of three adjacent buildings: The Jules Stein Eye Institute, which was inaugurated in 1966, the Doris Stein Eye Research Center, dedicated for service in 1989, and the state-of-the-art surgical center, the Edie and Lew Wasserman Building, which opened in 2014.

These combined structures provide nearly 300,000 square feet of functional space to greatly enhance UCLA Stein Eye Institute’s continued evolution into the leading eye care, vision research and educational center of the 21st century.

UCLA Stein Eye and Doheny Eye Institutes share a long tradition of excellence, and through this partnership, the respective strengths that gained each Institute an international reputation have been combined. Doheny Eye Center UCLA are under the direction of Vice Chairman Dr. Alfredo A. Sadun, and Medical Director Dr. John A. Irvine.
