The Specialty Training and Advanced Research Program (STAR) at the David Geffen School of Medicine is a unique program designed for optimal career development of physician scientists. The program allows young academicians to combine clinical fellowship or residency training with formal, advanced research training. Fellows/residents admitted to STAR may pursue a graduate degree, PhD or mater of science degree. Fellows who enter the program with dual MD/PhDs are afforded protected time to pursue postdoctoral research in coordination with clinical training. STAR program trainees receive 12 to 24 months of clinical training followed by research training in one of four tracks: basic science, health services/outcomes, clinical research or post-doctoral research training. UCLA STAR Program
