The following section provides information about making a procedure appointment, preparing for your procedure, and answers to common questions. If you have any further questions, please call us at 310-267-3636.
Upon arrival to the endoscopy suite, our nursing staff will assist you in preparing for your procedure. This may include changing into an examination gown, placement of an intravenous line for the delivery of sedative medications during your procedure, and review of your current medications and medical conditions. For your safety, please bring an up to date list of your medications.
In certain circumstances, an anesthesiologist will administer your sedative medications. This physician will introduce his or herself prior to your procedure, and explain what type of sedative medications you will receive.
Our interventional endoscopy physician will also meet with you and your companion(s) prior to the procedure in order to explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.
In the procedure room, a SAFETY TIMEOUT will be performed. Here you will be asked to state your name, birthdate, and describe the procedure you will be undergoing. Our team will then be available to answer any last questions you may have prior to start of the procedure.
Generally, you will need to take no food by mouth from midnight the night before your procedure, unless specifically instructed otherwise by our interventional endoscopy team. Some procedures may also require you to take a bowel cleanser the day prior to your procedure. In addition, our team may ask that you discontinue certain medications prior to your procedure. If you have any questions regarding an appropriate diet, bowel preparation, or your medications, please contact us at 310-267-3636 and we will be happy to assist you.
