The Microbiome Core performs 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing of human and animal samples (including feces, tissues, and intestinal lavage material) as well as other services related to microbiome studies. Samples can be delivered frozen, at room temperature in a preservative, or as extracted DNA. Our standard 16S rRNA sequencing pipeline involves DNA extraction with bead beating, PCR amplification using the F515/R806 primers, Golay barcoding, and 150x2 paired-end sequencing on the Illumina MiSeq or HiSeq 2500. Data are provided as fastq files and a count table of operational taxonomic units matched to the Greengenes or Silva database. The Microbiome Core can also perform custom services to facilitate multi'omics analysis including shotgun metagenomics and metatranscriptomics. The Jacobs Laboratory is happy to collaborate on bioinformatics analysis of of microbiome data in conjunction with other datasets (e.g. clinical metadata, metabolomics).
