If a floor patient requires ICU level care, call the Intensivist on-call for assistance. Please make use of the Intensivists if you have any questions about potential unit transfers. It is in the best interest of patient care that they be contacted early in this process.
Upon transfer to the ICU, the Geriatrics service will continue to follow the patient on a daily basis and write daily notes, but as Geriatrics consultants.
If a patient is decompensating quickly and requires immediate evaluation, please ask the nurse to call a Rapid Response.
For patients with acute stroke, please activate the stroke code. Patients with acute stroke are to be transferred to either the ICU or the 4NW Stroke Unit per institutional policy.
