New Frontiers for the Fontan Survivor

Challenges, Opportunities and the Ultimate Destination of Heart/Liver Transplantation

Saturday, September 21, 2019

UCLA Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference Center, 425 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, CA

This one-day symposium provides a comprehensive update on the long-term issues faced by adult Fontan survivors. The course focuses on patients with “failing” Fontan physiology and the available tools and therapies for the treatment of this challenging subset of patients, including updates on medical therapies, catheter-based and surgical techniques for palliation and support. The ultimate therapeutic options of orthotopic heart and multi-organ transplantation are covered in detail as the need grows in this aging Fontan population. The target audience includes adult and pediatric congenital cardiologists, congenital and transplant cardiac surgeons, heart failure/transplant specialists, hepatologists, liver transplant surgeons, cardiac intensivists, cardiology and cardiac surgery trainees, cardiac nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Adult Congenital Heart Disease: Quality Care in the Era of Certification and Accreditation - A Practical Approach

February 10-11, 2017
UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center & Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA

There are now an estimated 1.5 million adults living with congenital heart disease in the United States. In order to meet the growing demand for adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) specialty care, a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive approach to program development and patient care is needed. This course highlights the components of a multidisciplinary ACHD comprehensive care center, and provides an overview of complex clinical scenarios which outlines how specialty ACHD care is provided in the U.S. based on practice guidelines and accreditation standards.

This conference seeks to teach attendees about subspecialty practice standards for ACHD care to meet the life-long needs of this rapidly growing patient population. Over the past decade, the U.S. has witnessed expanding numbers of cardiology “ACHD” providers stepping up in an effort to shore up the deficits in ACHD specialty care. However, these providers vary widely with a broad spectrum of educational preparation and institutional preparation, which ultimately may impact the quality of care for ACHD patients.
