What is Organizational Development (OD)?
Peter Drucker (a founding thought leader in management and organization development) famously said, “culture eats strategy for breakfast,” meaning that you can have a strong organizational strategy, but the people implementing the strategy ultimately determine its success. Our Organizational Development team helps others create the team culture necessary for strategic success.
Organizational Development (OD) is an applied social science used to understand and improve group and team dynamics. As OD consultants, we support executives and leaders in identifying opportunities to enhance team culture and increase staff retention and engagement through organizational assessments, strategic planning, change management, and leader and team development.

In this section of the newsletter we will highlight new books, recommended by CORE team members, that focus on professional development. Many of the books that will appear here are referenced in our CORE trainings, and we hope you can take advantage of attending a CORE training and then continuing your learning journey with these books.
A note from Nickle:
There are many ways to gain new information and learn new skills. Taking a course from CORE, watching courses on LinkedIn Learning, listening to podcasts, are all great avenues for your professional growth and development. There is one medium however, that I believe is not utilized enough in or ongoing journey of professional development. Books. When you read a well written book, you are gaining access to the authors’ calculated thoughts, research, and even opinions, even more so than with a video or podcast. Another advantage of learning through reading is that it provides you the opportunity to pause at any point and reflect on what you just read. Not only reflect, but also dig deeper into specific topics that pique your interest.

The content of Engagement MAGIC is the culmination of over 32 million employee engagement survey responses, psychological literature reviews and business case studies researched over two decades. While the subtitle of this book is Five Keys for Engaging People, Leaders, and Organizations, I would be tempted to replace it simply with, How to Engage Yourself. While there are applications for leaders on how to help employees engage, that is not the focus of this work. The focus, and I think the strength, of this book lies in addressing how we, as individuals can better engage, or reengage, in our work.
CORE offers a class by the same name which draws its training content from the research presented in the book.
