“Creating a healthy future for children through transformative research today”

Building on a strong history at UCLA

For more than 60 years, the faculty and staff at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA have delivered pioneering research, patient care and education and training.

The UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute (CDI) was founded in 2012 to inspire scientific discovery and design new avenues for innovation, to cultivate collaborative teams and research support systems, and to ensure its pediatric physician scientists can improve the lives of children today and in the future.

Vision:
To be a national leader in pediatric health research through discovery and innovation.

Mission Statement:

  • We will be a catalyst for ground-breaking discoveries across the translational spectrum, from basic and laboratory to clinical to community-based research
  • We will train the next generation of child health investigators
  • We will achieve equity in and improve the physical and emotional health of children, adolescents, young adults, and their families
  • We will promote research collaborations locally, nationally, and globally
