This CDI program began in 2017 and is designed to optimize the research trajectory of faculty who are focused upon research. The junior faculty are nominated by division chiefs based upon training, expertise, and time devoted to research. CDI helps faculty with a mentoring plans, scholarship oversight committees, an individualized faculty development plan, and a set of academic, research, leadership and administrative skills needed to become successful researchers.

Junior Faculty Career Development Grant

The UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute (CDI) provides this training grant of up to $98,5000 for one year for junior faculty conducting basic or translational research focused in any area relative to child health and disease. This training grant helps generate preliminary data to assist them towards independent NIH funding.

Child Health Research Career Development Award (CHRCDA) Program (PAST)

The Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is the recipient of the National Institutes of Health, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Child Health Research Career Development Award (CHRCDA) Program (PAST). The UCLA CHRCDA is committed to training Pediatric subspecialty physician-scientists with an emphasis on basic and translational research towards understanding pediatric diseases.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program

For more than three decades the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program has fostered the development of physicians who are leading the transformation of health care through positions in academic medicine, public health, and other leadership roles. The goal of the program is to integrate scholars' clinical expertise with training in program development and research methods to help them find solutions for the challenges posed by the U.S. healthcare system, community health and health services research.

Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP)

The Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP) provides intensive training in research relevant to specialty areas of pediatrics. The goal is to prepare entry-level faculty for research careers in academic pediatrics. Physicians presently in pediatric training programs who wish to train in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research with an established investigator/mentor are encouraged to apply. A commitment to an investigative academic career is essential. The program has a rich history as one of the most successful physician-scientist training programs across the nation, with an impressive cadre of alumni who are leaders in pediatric research.
