What types of Volunteer Opportunities are offered?

  • Parent Volunteer
    Parents enrolled in the UCLA Early Head Start Program are encouraged to volunteer. Parent volunteers can assist during the socialization sessions, in the planning and day of events, during training sessions, providing clerical support, assist in recruitment events and be a parent speaker during trainings.
  • Early Head Start Office Volunteer
    Trained Office volunteers assist in the reception area. Volunteer welcomes families by phone or in person. Assists families in completing application for services. Provides general clerical support, assist in making copies, filing, and light data entry. Prepares meeting room. Volunteers must be friendly, dependable have computer skills and able to come in on scheduled days. Shifts vary from 8:30 to 11:30 and 1 p.m.to 3 p.m.and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • UCLA Early Head Start Child Development Intern
    The Child Development intern assists the Early Childhood Educators in preparing home visit and socialization material, assist in socializations, assist in preparation of snack during socialization sessions, and assist in planning school readiness activities. In addition child development interns researches information, participates in outreach events, create PowerPoint materials. Child Development interns must be college students studying child development or a related subject. Interns must be dependable, have successfully passed at least 1 child development course, and be able to come in on the scheduled days. There are various schedules.
  • Professionals Volunteer (lawyer, firefighter, police officer, doctor, dentist, mental health professional etc.)
    Various opportunities available including providing presentations, providing service such as dental screening, hearing screening, talking about safety, etc. or consultation with staff.
  • Story Time Volunteer Read Story Time
    The Story time volunteer reads stories to children during the socialization session. The Story time volunteer must like to work with children and families, be available on Fridays for a 2 hour period between 8:30 and 1 p.m.
  • Dietetic Interns
    Dietetic interns work directly with the Health Services Manager and the Register Dietician. Dietetic interns complete a project that includes developing a nutrition handout or nutrition activity. Dietetic interns must be in a registered dietitian program.
