UCLA General Pediatrics – Community & Advocacy Task Force

The mission of the UCLA General Pediatrics Community & Advocacy Task Force is to engage in effective clinical, education, research, and advocacy collaborations with community partners to achieve optimal health and well-being for children and families. The long-term goal of the Community and Advocacy Task Force is to achieve sustainable, meaningful community engagement around issues important to the communities that we serve.

Currently, the Community & Advocacy Task Force is collaborating with the UCLA Pediatrics Residency Program on a community resource mapping project. The task force works with pediatric residents to identify community resources, such as housing resources and family support programs, that can be recommended to patients and their families during visits to the pediatrician. The project strengthens clinical care while educating pediatric residents about social determinants of health.

The Community & Advocacy Task Force also supports medical student, post-graduate trainee, and faculty-led advocacy at the local, state, and national level, as well as in the global health arena – all aimed to promote optimal health and well-being for children.

UCLA TIES for Families program

TIES for Families is an interdisciplinary, university-based program established in 1995 to promote the successful adoption, growth, and development of children with special needs, especially those with prenatal substance exposure who are in foster care.

The program is located on the UCLA campus and works in close collaboration with the public child welfare and mental health systems. The program employs an innovative model of intervention to reduce barriers to the adoption of these children and support their successful transition into permanent homes with stable, nurturing families.
