Kenny is one smart, loving and determined 11-year-old boy. At the age of 8, Kenny’s family noticed that he had lost a significant amount of weight, suffered from a persistent cough and had trouble sleeping due to night sweats. After a trip to the emergency department, a chest X-ray revealed stage 3 cancer in his chest. On September 9, 2012, Kenny was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
“I knew I had to be strong for my family, but inside of me, I just wanted to fall down on the floor and just never wake up again,” Kenny’s father, Kenneth, recalls. Since then, Kenny has endured countless procedures, numerous hospital stays and chemotherapy three times a week for eight months.
But after a brave three-year battle, Kenny is now in remission! With the majority of treatment behind him, the most important things to Kenny are his family, friends and basketball, which he tries to play every chance he gets! Kenny also serves as a Youth Ambassador for Hyundai's Hope on Wheels program, an initiative dedicated to raising funds for pediatric cancer research. When Kenny grows up, he wants to be a doctor, but not before he gets the chance to design video games and play in the NBA.
Congratulations to Kenny on being selected as UCLA's 7th Kid Captain!
