We provide a structured educational program that gives trainees a solid foundation in pediatric critical care medicine.

Divisional conferences are held several times a week and incorporate didactic lectures by faculty from within and outside the division, case presentations, journal club, morbidity and mortality conference, research conference and board review sessions. Included in these lectures are important topics such as professionalism, career planning, ethics, work-life balance and stress and fatigue management.

In order to provide technical skills instruction, trainees participate in specially designed sessions in the UCLA Simulation Center which is a 9000 square foot space with access to state of the art simulation technology.

In addition, trainees are encouraged to:

  • Attend lectures and conferences outside the division including cardiothoracic surgical conference.
  • Participate in a well-developed fellow core curriculum for all pediatric subspecialty fellows in research that includes mini-courses in biostatistics and biomedical ethics.
  • Teach residents and medical students, both during their rotations and in structured lectures.
