Pediatric Rheumatology

Understanding the concepts of rheumatology is difficult since it involves so many different organ systems. We often think of arthritis as affecting the joints, but those who have it know that it affects all aspects of the body. Since our immune system affects many organs, rheumatologic diseases are systemic diseases. Most often the musculoskeletal system is involved, but all other organs may be involved. Pediatric Rheumatologists are interested in the immune system and how it becomes confused and recognizes its own tissues as foreign (autoimmunity), inflammation, and genetic causes of inflammation.

Please follow these links to learn more about rheumatology and problems that may occur with the immune system, autoimmune disease and autoinflammatory diseases.
