The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a Kennamer Extensivist Fellowship position. The fellowship is designed to train outstanding clinicians with expertise in caring for a highly complex and vulnerable patient population across the care spectrum.

UCLA Health is seeking one motivated physician for a fellowship in general primary care. This one-year fellowship beginning July 1, 2024 is a junior academic appointment as a HS Clinical Instructor in general primary care. The fellow will have longitudinal clinical rotations in a variety of UCLA and non-UCLA clinical sites, with flexibility in tailoring the experiences to the learning environment and career goals of the fellow.

The fellowship aims to train outstanding, innovative, fellow physicians, who deliver high quality, interdisciplinary and humanistic care to a highly complex and vulnerable patient population using a unique model of care that enhances internal medicine training. They will engage in a project exploring innovative care delivery techniques to improve the health of complex patients. Fellows will engage in experiences that expand their breadth and depth of knowledge to prepare them for advanced practice.

Fellowship components will include:

  1. Care for medically and psychosocially complex patients
  2. Effectively leading an interdisciplinary team in the ambulatory setting
  3. Developing comfort with using the patient’s home as an effective care setting
  4. Incorporating telehealth, including remote monitoring to care for patients in the home setting
  5. Engaging in experiences in palliative care, behavioral health, and East-West medicine
  6. Training surrounding substance use disorders and treatment
  7. Treating mental health disorders in patients with complex medical conditions
  8. Opportunities to teach residents and medical students
  9. Opportunity to receive training in LEAN methodology Quality Improvement Methods
  10. Coursework and workshops spanning a variety of topics including complex care medicine, transitions of care, social determinants of health, epidemiology and statistics, palliative care medicine, advance care planning, and behavioral health

The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research invites applications for a Specialist position at full rank to provide administrative research and program oversight for various community projects and studies. The Specialist will help support projects in the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Community Engagement Research Program (CERP), DGSOM Community Engagement Program, and other health service research grants. Responsibilities include supervising teams to implement community engagement, outreach, and research. Specialist will serve as a consultant for city and county level workforce development initiatives. The Specialist will facilitate long-term outcome reporting for completed projects using focus groups and other formats to gain insight from participants. Specialist will be instrumental in expanding and improving successful projects and developing new programs as needed. The Specialist will be responsible for working with other departments and schools at UCLA and any state and federal funders, will coordinate and manage the development of written materials for web sites, brochures and other information or content materials such as scientific manuscripts and outreach materials for active projects. The Specialist will plan and coordinate programs, including public lectures and other lecture series, annual events, conferences, education outreach across a broad range of stakeholders in the scientific community and public at large, building relationships with related external and internal organizations.

A master's degree (M.P.H., M.S.W., etc.) or a terminal degree is required with extensive knowledge or 10 or more years of experience working with community partners and project management experience supporting grants from faculty leading community-based research projects.

The UCLA Palliative Care Program has openings for full-time outpatient or inpatient Palliative Care physicians serving the Greater Los Angeles area, including Westwood, Santa Monica, Westlake Village, Santa Clarita, and the South Bay. The Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research, Medicine-Pediatrics Section, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a Postdoctoral position. This is a one-year and full-time postdoctoral clinical fellowship for a pre-licensed individual seeking advanced training in evidence-based treatment for mental health conditions that commonly present within interdisciplinary community settings (including substance use). The patient populations will consist of adults and adolescent patients/clients within settings that include traditional outpatient therapy settings, an innovative youth drop-in setting, and a substance use residential treatment/intensive outpatient program (IOP). A Ph.D./Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology is required. Individuals who fill this role will rotate through multiple clinic locations to gain the full breadth of therapeutic modalities among a diversity of Los Angeles populations served by UCLA Health and its affiliates. This individual will share patients with primary care physicians by using an interdisciplinary, collaborative treatment model and have the opportunity to accrue postdoctoral hours towards CA licensure through clinical supervision by a UCLA faculty member who is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in interdisciplinary, collaborative treatment models among adolescent and adult populations. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to also participate in weekly didactics and complete a scholarly/quality improvement project by month 9 of fellowship.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D./Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited graduate program.
  • Completion of pre-doctoral internship at APA-accredited site.
  • Skill and experience in providing psychological clinical services to patients with acute or chronic medical problems and their families.
  • Advanced training in various evidence-based approaches to individual psychotherapy with adolescents and adults.
  • Experience in group psychotherapy with adolescents and adults.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and legal requirements.

The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and the Veterans Administration Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System invite applications for faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor ranks.

Successful applicants will have conducted outstanding, independent scholarly work in health services research with clear implications for clinical practice, population health management, or health policy. We welcome expertise in a broad range of topical areas, including in health equity, which is a particular strength of our Division. Additionally, we invite applications for a faculty position at the advanced assistant and associate level for those interested in palliative care research. Areas of methodologic expertise include but are not limited to econometrics, behavioral economics, machine learning/artificial intelligence, implementation science, evaluation of natural experiments and/or interventions at the practice, health system, and/or policy levels, cost effectiveness analyses, and expertise with mixed methods inclusive of qualitative research approaches. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for conducting exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty in the fields of public health and health services research.

Applicants must have the potential to obtain peer-reviewed funding and to serve as PI on multidisciplinary research teams. Research training via fellowship, Master’s, or PhD program is highly desirable. Successful clinician investigator applicants will care for patients as well as teach and supervise clinical trainees. Successful non-clinician candidates will be involved in teaching research methods to postdoctoral fellows and other research trainees. The Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research, Medicine-Pediatrics Section, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking applicants for neuropsychologists to work with patients of all ages with neurodevelopmental issues in our LEND, Sickle Cell, and Primary Care clinics. This position will provide direct patient care and supervision and teaching of residents and medical students in inpatient and outpatient settings. Demonstrated skill in clinical teaching and practice required. Experience working as part of a primary care team in an integrated behavioral health model preferred. A doctorate in neuropsychology and a current California psychology license are required. Candidate must be board eligible or board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology. Formal training in neurodevelopmental disabilities, especially autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities strongly preferred. Positions are available at the Instructor or Assistant Professor ranks.
