The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a faculty position with FTE support at the advanced Assistant, Associate, or Professor Rank in the field of Health Economics.
We seek to identify candidates with interest in analyzing the effects of health and healthcare policy and changes in healthcare delivery at any level including, but not limited to, federal, state, and local policies; structure of healthcare and insurance markets; social determinants of health; technological change in healthcare; and clinical policies. We welcome expertise in a broad range of topical areas, including but not limited to applied econometrics, research with large data sets, policy analysis, analysis of natural experiments, and simulation modeling. A collaborative ethos with demonstrated ability to lead and participate in research projects with social scientists and physician researchers is a requirement for this position. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for conducting exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty in the fields of public health and health services research.
Candidates are expected to continue to develop their own research program and obtain their own funding. An M.D. with board certification in Internal Medicine and a doctorate in economics or health economics is required for this position. Successful candidates will be involved in teaching research methods to postdoctoral fellows and other research trainees and will also have a secondary appointment in School of Public Health with opportunities to teach and mentor masters and doctoral students.

The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applicants for an Adjunct faculty position at the Assistant or Associate rank for the Medicine Statistics Core (DOMStat). In this position the primary responsibility will be to provide biostatistical collaboration to faculty in the Department of Medicine. Duties include working closely with biomedical collaborators in designing studies, collaborating on extramural grant preparation, using state-of-the-art statistical techniques, teaching biostatistics to medical fellows and junior faculty and presenting study results in manuscripts. Effective collaboration with medical researchers is of major importance. Emphasis will be placed on applicants with a track record of collaboration. Candidate will be expected to teach one course per year.
The candidate must have a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, or other relevant discipline; at least one year of post-graduate experience in providing statistical consultation for medical research; experience in assisting with grant preparation; experience with collaboration on data analysis and publication of medical research articles.

Successful applicants will have conducted outstanding, independent scholarly work in health services research with clear implications for clinical practice, population health management, or health policy. We welcome expertise in a broad range of topical areas, including in health equity, which is a particular strength of our Division. We are also interested in applicants with expertise in econometrics, cost-effectiveness analyses, and/or behavioral economics. Other areas of methodologic expertise include but are not limited to machine learning/artificial intelligence, implementation science, evaluation of natural experiments and/or interventions at the practice, health system, and/or policy levels, and expertise with mixed methods inclusive of qualitative research approaches. Applicants must have the potential to obtain peer-reviewed funding and to serve as PI on multidisciplinary research teams. Research training via fellowship, Master’s, or PhD program is highly desirable. Successful clinician investigator applicants will care for patients as well as teach and supervise clinical trainees. Successful non-clinician candidates will be involved in teaching research methods to postdoctoral fellows and other research trainees. The UCLA Palliative Care Program has openings for full-time outpatient Palliative Care physicians serving the Greater Los Angeles area, including Westwood, Santa Monica, Westlake Village, Santa Clarita, and the South Bay. Successful candidates will be part of an innovative care model with collaboration with Primary Care, Extensivist Medicine, and Hematology-Oncology.
