PHAST-TSC stands for Pre-Hospital Administration of Stroke Therapy –Trans Sodium Crocetinate.
This study will help researchers understand if the drug trans sodium crocetinate (TSC) helps minimize the long term effects of stroke. In the study, TSC will be given to stroke patients through an IV in the arm in the ambulance on the way to the hospital because researchers think it may have the best chance of benefit if given within 2 hours of the start of symptoms of a stroke.
This study is being conducted in two regions: 1) Los Angeles County and 2) Central Virginia. In Los Angeles County, the study is being performed by a consortium of up to 15 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Provider Agencies and up to 20 receiving Stroke Center hospitals.
