Spring 2019

OPENROAD

Spring has sprung and UCLA Neurology is hitting the open road. Much of our clinical and research accomplishments come from a progression, a path, in which we develop our ideas and our new directions over time and distance traveled. We follow our opportunities down a road that often changes directions, from experience to experience. We strive, accomplish, fail and regroup; moving forward, or lateral, or perhaps now and then even backwards for a bit. Walt Whitman wrote in the Song of the Open Road:

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,

Healthy, free, the world before me,

The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,

Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,

Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,

Strong and content I travel the open road.

In this issue of the Chair’s Report, we travel with three members of the UCLA Neurology Department as they follow their open road, and look down its path to the future.
