Patient Stories

At the UCLA Neuromodulation for Movement Disorders and Pain Program, we are dedicated to our patients and helping them achieve a higher quality of life.

Their success stories motivate us to work harder each day and continue to improve the field for tomorrow's patients through research and clinical trials.

We cannot cure our patients. In some cases, we cannot completely relieve their symptoms. But our advanced surgical treatments can help them move through their daily lives with less pain, fewer tremors and more confidence and independence.

We thank our patients who have allowed us to share their stories.

Deep Brain Stimulation to treat Parkinson's Disease - Tonya's Story

  • Deep brain stimulation helped Veronica walk again: As a teenager suffering from dystonia, Veronica lost use of her legs. After undergoing deep brain stimulation at UCLA, Veronica was able to walk again and lead a normal teenage life. Watch Veronica's story.
  • Microvascular decompression relieves April's pain: April's facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia made it unbearable to eat, talk or smile. After undergoing microvascular decompression at UCLA, April says her doctor gave her back her life. Today, she is pain free. See April's story.
