Spinal Neurosurgical Care Fellowship Purpose
Spinal Neurosurgical Care Fellowship Purpose
Purpose
The UCLA Neurosurgery spine fellowship offers an outstanding exposure to complex surgical techniques, outpatient management/decision making, and a variety of ongoing research activities.
One of the highlights of the operative experience is the amount of time spent learning minimally invasive surgical techniques for cervical thoracic, and lumbar spinal disorders.
In addition to minimally invasive techniques, the fellows will become facile at performing complex anterior/posterior reconstructions for degenerative spine disease, trauma, and neoplastic conditions. The fellow will also be exposed to arthroplasty and other motion sparing surgical techniques. The neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons work closely together in the joint UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center. The fellow will have ample opportunity to operate with the orthopaedic spine surgeons, and also participate in the joint weekly spine conferences.
A number of clinical and basic research activities are available. The fellows are encouraged to submit and present papers at national academic meetings. The average fellowship caseload is approximately 325 cases during the year.
