Geriatric unit at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital embraces a culture of sensitivity to the unique needs of older adults. Nurses are trained to provide a comprehensive and specialized care to the hospitalized geriatric patients. The patients are admitted to the unit with acute and chronic health conditions mainly from skilled nursing facilities or home. These patients receive close observation, frequent nursing assessment and interventions with the aim of bringing them to a level of functioning that is safe for their discharge back to the community. A Multidisciplinary team approach is used in meeting the complex needs of the patients. The team partners with the patients and families to provide the best possible patient experience. Keeping patients safe is a consistent focus in our delivery of care from the point of admission to discharge.
