Exemplars

  • Standardization of glucose/insulin management in the inpatient setting through the use of protocols and order set. Continually meet ADA glucose goals of 140-180 mg/dl in the RR and SM ICU and non-ICU settings
  • Partnered with our designated ARU for liver transplant patients to standardized diabetes education in order to prevent readmissions for hyperglycemia. For CY 2019 and 2020 there were no readmissions for hyperglycemia
  • Spearheaded a multidisciplinary team to develop an EBP protocol for the management of hyperglycemia in the COVID-19 patients receiving dexamethasone on the non-ICU unit. The protocol achieved ADA inpatient glucose goals (140-180 mg/dl) and substantially minimized nursing's exposure to COVID-19 by using a subcutaneous insulin regimen (glucose monitoring 4 times a day) versus using insulin infusions (glucose monitoring 12-24 x a day)
