Exemplars
- Designed an innovative process harnessing patient level Care Connect data to trigger orders for EtCO2 monitoring for patients at high risk for respiratory depression receiving opioid analgesics. Led pilot and mentored bedside nurse champions to explore the process of EtCO2 monitoring to prepare for systemwide rollout ("Breathe Easy" project). Partnered with informatics to revise ordersets to reference the Richmond Agitation and Sedation Scale to support education and focus on sedation assessment by nurses.
- Partnered with physicians to pilot a revised analgesic orderset based on a model implemented at UCSD and UCD to address the root cause for dose to score non-compliance, promote non opioid analgesic use, non pharmacologic pain management interventions and opioid stewardship.
- Partnered with Integrative Therapy and mentored bedside nurses from the Ronald Reagan ED to design and pilot a method to match non pharmacologic interventions with every opioid administration increasing rate of use from 18 to 47% over eight weeks.
