Purpose: To describe the perceptions, beliefts, attitudes and other factors that impact interactions between nurses and the families of children with complex, chronic, and life threatening conditions in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Detecting and Preventing Pressure Ulcers in Critically Ill Patients

Purpose: To test a biophysical measure of early pressure ulcers (PUs) as a method of targeting timely prevention strategies among critically ill patients using a pre/post intervention pre-experimental design.

The Effects of TeamSTEPPS Interprofessional Communication and Teamwork Training on Patient and Provider Outcomes

Purpose: To describe the effects of the simulation-based TeamSTEPPS interdisciplinary communication and teamwork training on patient outcomes and participants' perceptions of communication, teamwork, and patient safety culture.

Stress and Health in Family Caregivers of Persons with Heart Failure
Principal Investigator: Boyoung Hwang, RN, PhD
Purpose: To provide critical pilot data to support an R01 application for a large RCT, and ultimately contribute to preventing health problems and promoting health and quailty of life among HF caregivers as well as their loved ones with HF.

Purpose: To test the use of framing effects (messages) on readmission reduction for patients' with a diagnosis of pneumonia.

Aquapheresis vs Intravenous Diuretics and Hospitalizations for Heart Failure
Principal Investigator: Greg Fonarow, MD
Purpose: To confirm and expand the findings that fluid removal by UF reduces HF rehopitalizations at 90 days as well as the length of these HF rehospitalizations
