Dr. Azziz earned a B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez and an M.D. from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Georgetown University Hospital and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrine/Infertility at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Azziz earned a Masters in Public Health in 1995, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000. Dr. Azziz is former Chair of the Advisory Committee on Reproductive Health Drugs of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and member of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He currently serves on the DSMB panel for the NIH/NICHD Reproductive Medicine Network. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California appointed him to serve as a member of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC) of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CRIM), the state agency created to disburse three billion dollars in funding for stem cell research.
