The lab of Dr. Sandra Orsulic at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar for a multiple year research appointment. The grant funded position will work under Dr. Orsulic’s direction in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology.
Dr. Orsulic’s research focuses on the development of mouse models in which ovarian cancer can be induced and studied during its early stages of growth and metastatic progression. Her laboratory has generated multiple syngeneic mouse ovarian cancer cell lines with defined genetic alterations that recapitulate the development and pathophysiological manifestations of human ovarian cancer as well as the complexity of cancer-stroma interactions. These models are used to determine the functional contributions of individual molecular pathways to cell transformation, immune response to cancer progression, recruitment of cancer-associated fibroblasts, and development of therapy resistance.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Qualified applicants can include graduate students in their last year of obtaining a Ph.D. who have successfully defended their thesis or applicants who are in the first year of a postdoctoral appointment. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in molecular and cell biology and have experience with -omics analyses and small animal surgical procedures. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and have publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Salary is commensurate with experience and skill level.
Applicants must provide the following documents to apply:
Following interviews, the final candidate may be asked to provide references. Interested candidates can apply through the UC Recruit system.

The UCLA G.O. Discovery Laboratory, located in the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center and affiliated with the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Molecular Biology Institute, is looking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Scholar. The appointment will be through the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Biological Chemistry at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.
This position is available for recent PhD. or MD, PhD graduates. The candidate will participate in funded translational research programs to study stromal and epithelial interactions in gynecologic cancers. Working in the laboratory of Sanaz Memarzadeh, MD, PhD, your research will focus on developing better strategies for therapy of ovarian and endometrial cancers that can be taken from the laboratory to the clinic. You will also work to understand the role of epithelial and stromal interactions in gynecologic cancers with an emphasis on hormonal signaling and the role of stem cells. Additional projects focus on overcoming mechanisms of therapy resistance in ovarian and endometrial cancers. This program concentrates on defining the genetic changes that induce ovarian and endometrial cancers, cell populations that give rise to the tumor with an emphasis on finding better-tolerated and more effective treatments for patients.
The right candidate for this fellowship will be a highly motivated recent PhD or MD, PhD graduate with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology. Experience with microscopy, immunohistochemistry, FACS analysis, virology, immunology and small animal surgical procedures are strongly preferred. The applicant must have two first author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
