RESEARCH AREA

Dr. Markolf conducts research studies in the field of sports medicine. Areas of interest include knee injury mechanisms, meniscal injuries, cruciate ligament reconstruction, loading in the wrist and forearm, ankle sprains, and internal fixation. Studies typically involve instrumentation of cadaveric joint specimens with force and motion transducers, followed by loading tests to determine ligament loading, joint stability and kinematic function. The results of these studies help to better understand sports injury mechanisms, and to develop improved protocols for patient rehabilitation.
