The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers a one-year fellowship that combines advanced training in Genitourinary Pathology with general surgical pathology rotations.  The fellowship is intended to foster the development of strong diagnostic skills and up-to-date training to prepare the fellow for practice in both the academic and community settings with strong skills in general surgical pathology and specialized expertise in genitourinary pathology.  The fellow will spend 6 months each on the genitourinary pathology service and general surgical pathology rotations (see General Surgical Pathology Fellowship description), respectively.

During the 6 months period of GU pathology, the fellow will coordinate and participate in the GU pathology service, including daily sign-out and service work-related activities, overseeing residents on the genitourinary pathology services as well as pathology assistants in the gross room, and presenting at the multi-disciplinary tumor board and radiology-urology-pathology correlation conferences. The fellow also participates in teaching activities, including: 1) Serving as Junior Attending and signing out residents; 2) Presenting one or more GU pathology lectures to residents and fellows; 3) Participating in teaching the GU pathology lab sessions to medical students.

The attendings of GU pathology conduct active basic, translational and clinical research. The fellow has ample opportunity to participate in these research projects.
