The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers a one-year combined fellowship that offers advanced training in Breast and Gynecological Pathology as well as general surgical pathology. The fellowship is intended to foster the development of strong diagnostic skills and up-to-date training in clinically relevant pathologic aspects for practice in both the academic and community setting. The fellow will spend 3 months on the breast pathology service, 3 months on the gynecological pathology service, and 6 months in general surgical pathology rotations (see General Surgical Pathology Fellowship description). The importance of clinic-pathological interaction is stressed, with the fellow participating in tumor board and multi-disciplinary conferences. The fellow participates in daily sign-out and service work-related activities, including overseeing residents on the breast and the gynecologic pathology services as well as pathology assistants in the gross room. The fellow also manages the busy breast and gynecologic pathology consult and referral service. After demonstrating competency, the fellows will serve as Junior Attending, where they will sign out cases.
