Bio
Lu Song is the interim co-chief of Clinical Chemistry at UCLA Medical Center and an associate professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine of UCLA. She became certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) in 2002 and obtained her clinical chemist license from the State of California in 2013. She received her Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from University of Washington in 1989 and completed clinical chemistry postdoctoral training from the Mayo Clinic in 1998. She has more than 20 years experience in directing clinical laboratory, implementing quality control programs, developing and validating new assays, troubleshooting technical problems with chemistry and immunochemistry assays, as well as providing consultations to clinicians regarding test utilization and interpretations. Dr. Song’s research activities focus on test development, assay implementation, method validation related to clinical chemistry, especially in areas of heart disease, cancer, endocrine disorders and bone metabolism.
